Black Mangabey

Lophocebus aterrimus

RANGE: central Zaire

HABITAT: primary and secondary forests and flooded areas

DIET: fruits, nuts or seeds, to a lesser extent flowers, immature leaves and insects

SIZE: 7-26 lbs

LIFESPAN: about 30 years in captivity

Black mangabey can live in bands with 10 to 30 monkeys.
These mangabeys rarely descend to the ground.
Occassionally come to the ground to raid maize, sweet potato, ground nuts, and cassava crops.
